AIA Central Illinois announces recipients of 2009 AIA Central Illinois Service Awards. The awards program is held recognize individuals who have contributed to the reputation of architecture through outstanding service to the profession, education, and community. Active members of the Central Illinois Chapter were invited to submit individuals for review by a distinguished jury of peers from the Chicago Chapter. Additionally the board has added an award category for non-members who have benefited the profession of architecture. The Distinguished Citizen Advocate Award is selected by the AIA Central Illinois board.


AIA Central Illinois Outstanding Associate Member Award
Alex Webber, Associate AIA, LEED AP

“Alex’s dedication to community service really impressed us. His numerous involvements within his firm, the AIA, USGBC, Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross and other organizations are quite commendable.

The jury also appreciated his service on the Cupcake Committee, his companies’ employee engagement committee.


AIA Central Illinois Outstanding Young Architect Award
John E. Bishop, Jr., AIA, LEED AP

Not only was John the Architect for the Challenger Learning Center and did a great job, he was instrumental in the fundraising efforts which really out to the jury as the exemplified citizen architect.


AIA Central Illinois Outstanding Professional Member Award

The multitude of community organizations clif donated his time and service to make him a clear example of what the Outstanding Member service award is. Clif’s service to AIA CI and the community is a clear example of what this award is all about.


AIA Central Illinois Outstanding Educator Award
Michael Todd McCulley, AIA

Professor McCulley’s expansive career exemplifies an Outstanding Educator. The breadth of his experience is recognized equally by the dean, his colleagues, and students. The jury was also impressed by Professor McCulley’s involvement beyond teaching, including his service on the licensing board and accreditation board.


AIA Central Illinois Outstanding Firm Award

Farnsworth Group, Inc. exemplifies the spirit of service to the community and the profession as indicated by it’s commitment to and support of staff involvement in AIA and community volunteer programs. The firm exhibits a fine example for corporate engagement and leadership that nurtures civic spirit.


AIA Central Illinois President's Award
Earl Wallace Henderson, Jr., AIA
Architect – Emeritus

Mr. Henderson’s time and efforts as part of the national Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission exemplifies the concept of the Citizen Architect.  Mr. Henderson’s involvement on making sure that the back of the penny focused on both Lincoln’s Illinois years and the architecture of the Old State Capitol and not on a more generic image has ensured a ubiquitous presence of Central Illinois in the pockets of all citizen.


AIA Central Illinois Distinguished Citizen Advocate Honorable Mention Award

Bloomington, Illinois

AIA Central Illinois, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, presents the Distinguished Citizen Advocate Award to recognize distinguished achievements in promoting and preserving neighborhoods, buildings, and landscapes of McLean County more than 50 years old, advocating, in educating the community on heritage they foster, and in serving as a key resource in the re-use of older building components.
