HONORABLE
MENTION - INTERIORS This University’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) was the recipient of a National Science Foundation Nanoscience and Engineering Research Center grant, which has created the Nanoscale Chemical-Electrical-Mechanical-Manufacturing Systems (Nanoscale-CEMMS) Center. Additionally, federal support was awarded for another nanoscale manufacturing effort entitled Microfactories for Precision Parts. Together with another University, Redstone Arsenal, and ALION Science and Technology, this project addresses micro/meso-manufacturing processes and the creation of “microfactories.” To provide administrative space for both of these research efforts, and to provide a true “center” for nano- and microscale research programs, the University has committed to remodel 7,300 gross square feet (GSF) of space on the 4th floor of the north wing a building on the campus. The project included a reception area, a suite of faculty and administrative offices, student offices, a conference room, and related support spaces. The entire project area will have central air conditioning and heating.
